RCWP has led the following summer programs in previous years. We  may continue these programs in the future, and they may also provide inspiration for other educators. Please contact us with any questions about these programs!

2024 RCWP at Kellogg Biological Station:

Writing with/in/about Nature

Join us in our collaboration with the Kellogg Biological Center for an immersive experience writing in nature! The trip will include an overnight stay at the station. Upon acceptance, the cost of room and board will be taken care of, all you will need to bring is a willingness to write and collaborate.

2023 Writing Retreat

This event was part of our Writing Retreat series. Our writing marathons, retreats, and workshops are spaces where we encourage each other to focus on ourselves and feed our inner writers. We welcome participants to explore, enjoy the wonderful cities and locales of Michigan, and to ever strengthen our loving and talented community. Future Writing Retreats will be posted on our website and Facebook.

Spend three days together with others working on your personal writing, relaxing, and finding inspiration at The Boathouse dwelling on Gun Lake. Arriving on Monday, writers can meet and greet, get settled, and enjoy provided snacks and beverages. Writing will begin together, with prompts provided, but also with freedom to enjoy quiet time alone with your work. Tuesday brings a full day of writing, gathering, and sharing, again, with plenty of opportunity to enjoy Gun Lake and the beautiful grounds. The retreat wraps up on Wednesday with writing, networking, and sharing until the 11 a.m. checkout.

Through 2023: Greenrock Writers Retreat

For many years, RCWP hosted the Greenrock Writers Retreat: a writing program for high school students at Michigan State University. High school students at Greenrock–incoming freshmen to outgoing seniors–experienced an opportunity to write at MSU with peers from around the state, as well as with two RCWP Teacher Consultants who are practicing university and high school teachers.  During the Greenrock weekend, students participated in writing activities and found inspiration for their own writing journey.

Check out the Greenrock Writers Retreat Facebook page for more information about this past program.

Summer 2022: Open Institute

In partnership with our colleague and TC Rae Oviatt of Eastern Michigan University and in collaboration with the Chippewa River and Eastern Michigan Writing Projects, we invite you to join scholars, artists, authors, and other teachers as we come together to strengthen our writing and multimodal composing practices in a virtual, open institute that creates brave spaces in our writing instruction, centering writing and composing models at the intersections of queer, BIPOC, and feminist voices. View the flyer below for more information.
