Greenrock Writers Retreat 2023

Check out our 2023 summer information below! Registration has been extended until Friday, June 9th!

To register for this summer’s camp session, you will purchase a “ticket” for the Retreat.

Greenrock Writers Retreat is a three-day camp for high school students with a passion for writing. Workshops are designed to encourage participants to view writing as both personally meaningful and pleasurable, as well as to improve student writing ability.

Students who are incoming ninth graders through outgoing twelfth graders in high school are invited to apply, regardless of writing proficiency. These participants will work with other young, aspiring writers as well as certified Red Cedar Writing Project (RCWP) Teacher-Consultants (TCs). RCWP TCs are experienced classroom teachers who have been identified as outstanding writing teachers by their colleagues and university faculty members.

As a Greenrock participant, you will work with a variety of teenagers from a multitude of high schools across Michigan. You will explore and improve your talents as a writer, both creatively and academically. Additionally, you will work with experienced college writers in order to enhance your own writing skills and participate in a novel study and discussion centered on the camp’s annual theme.

All inquiries should be directed to the Greenrock Writers Retreat directors at greenroc@msu.edu.

Meet Our Co-Facilitators

Sarah Rohlfs

Sarah Rohlfs is in her 16th year as an educator and currently teaches English 12 and Creative Writing at Haslett High School. She has been a teacher consultant of the Red Cedar Writing Project since 2008 and a co-facilitator of the Greenrock Writers Retreat since 2020. In addition to her love of reading and writing, Sarah is passionate about cooking, spending time outdoors, and traveling with her family.

Dr. Stacia Lael Moroski-Rigney

Dr. Stacia Lael Moroski-Rigney is Director of Accreditation, Program Review, and Assessment and a graduate faculty member in Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures (WRAC) at Michigan State University. She has been a co-facilitator of the Greenrock Writers Retreat since 2020. When not at work, Stacia is an event planner, a cook, a gifter, a runner, a shower singer, a TV/film buff, and a lover of most things Kentucky. Beyond her … ahem… scholarly interest in pop culture, she also relishes any time traveling; New Orleans is her favorite domestic stop, but the White Temple in Thailand is the ultimate travel destination. When reading, non-fiction is her go-to choice although Goodfellas and The Great Gatsby (I know, I know) will always hold a place in her heart. Stacia’s whole heart is with her wife Dr. Karen Moroski-Rigney, their families, and their two gorgeous cats—TagAlong (a Maine Coon/Ragdoll mix) and Henry (a short-haired, kisses-anytime-on-demand grey cat).
